Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Good stuff. As long as the vessel that is steaming towards you is bigger than 299 tonnes. Oh, and the position data may be up to an hour old.
  2. Try this in UK waters, reasonable cover and regular updates.
  3. It's not as useful as it could be - I don't know what the percentage of ships registered on the system is, but it certainly isn't 100%. I used it a couple of years ago for a while in the Canaries and was occasionally surprised...
  4. AIS is only mandatory on vessels of 299GRT or larger.
  5. Plenty of 40' charter boats have it fitted at their own cost.
