  1. From Haaretz:

Likud chair MK Benjamin Netanyahu has summoned about 70 foreign diplomats stationed in Israel to a meeting next Tuesday, at which he will urge them to end their complacency and join Israel in an effort to halt Iran's nuclear program, which he says is aimed at genocide of the Jews.

The meeting is to be the first event in an international public relations campaign. It will include a proposal to file a complaint in the International Court of Justice against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for war crimes, and his plans to commit genocide will be presented.

    ...

Netanyahu's independent campaign is expected to embarrass the Prime Minister's Office and the Foreign Ministry, since it expresses a public lack of faith in the state's public relations policy on the Iran issue.

    ...

Netanyahu says Israel must get the Americans to take action, not just with words but through an act of Congress.

  2. Ah, Bibi. Rabble rousing just like dear Mahmoud. Has anyone noticed how it seems like one extremist nutcase needs other extremist nutcases of an opposing ilk to survive? Hitler and Stalin, Sharon and Arafat, Bush and bin Laden, Netenyahu and Ahmadinejad.

As a political device, it's all well and good. Bibi gets his mug on tv and Likud probably gets a few shekels thrown its way by right-wing idiots who can't be bothered to think about things like actus reus. As an instrument of policy (which Bibi isn't worried about because he's in opposition) it's a retarded plan.

To be honest, I think Olmert's muted response has been right on the money, especially since neither Israel or the US is in any shape to do anything militarily. Take last week's Holocaust conference, for example. The world ridiculed it and Ahmadinejad lost a lot of credibility- which is what he craves more than anything and Bibi talking him up as a threat, plays into his hands. The man is a pair of clown shoes who is paid far more attention than he's worth. The easiest way to get rid of him is to stop making empty threats of the use force, ignore him and let his political support at home evaporate. The Iranian people, as long as the West isn't threatening to nuke them, will deal with it themselves.
