Light Infantry Training

Hi guys, this is my first post on here. I'm from Nottingham in the TA in the Artillery, but my unit is changing to Light Infantry next year, attached to 1st Battalion the Mercian Regiment. Currently we get to choose our trade (CP, OP or Guns) then do the courses required for that trade (which I've completed for the L118 light gun).

How does it work in the Light Infantry for phase 2 training? Do we all just do more general infantry training or do we choose the role we want to be (for example small arms, mortar, etc) and then only do the training for that? If it is the second one, what are the roles we can choose between?

Thanks for your help.
You will attend the two week TA CIC which is more of a range package than anything else. After that it will depend on your Platoons role as to wether you can specialise

Cheers Rusty. I googled "TA CIC" and found an ARRSE page about it with loads of information.

I'll pass it on to the guys at my unit.
We only found out last Wednesday when the White Paper was released. No one at my unit is sure what will happen when we become infantry, we're waiting for some one from the Mercian Regiment to come and explain how the transition will work and what we'll be expected to do.

I just wanted to get a heads up on it so could look for an alternative unit as soon as possible if I didn't like the sound of what I'd be required to do. We can't start our infantry training till the change-over happens next year so didn't want to waste this year while we're in-limbo.
