Lieutenant Daniel John Clack killed in Afghanistan

It is with sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Lieutenant Daniel John Clack, from 1st Battalion The Rifles, was killed in Afghanistan on 12 August 2011.

Lt Daniel Clack, 24, of 1st Battalion The Rifles, was called "profound and inspiring" by his commanding officer.

He died in Shaparak in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

About 400 mourners attended St Paul's Church in Woodford Green, north-east London, with shopkeepers and well-wishers lining local streets.

Five of Lt Clack's colleagues were hurt in the explosion, which happened 150m (500ft) from the entrance to the checkpoint where he was based.
Rest in Peace Lieutenant.

Now thoughts are with the 5 soldiers, not named, injured in same explosion.
