  2. "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed – and hence clamorous to be led to safety – by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." – H.L. Mencken

so the fact that he's a liarbour minister wasnt a clue then?? ;)
  6. Many also say that the whole war on terror was largely fabricated and extorted out of proportion in order to allow politicians to keep control of the downtrodden electorate. Create fear amongst the population's and you can create control measures to keep them in there place, and you in yours.

Some also say that the price of oil is manipulated in order to control certain countries. I mean, we haven't heard much from Iran in a while have we..?

You could also say that the Hadron Collider was sneaked out into the public domain whilst everyone was looking the other way. How can you spend 17 years and many Billions of Euro's digging a 17 mile tunnel with very few people knowing. Funnily enough we were then told that it was broken, was probably never ready in the first place, and that it won't be fired up again until next year.

    Cynical, Moi, never...!
  7. Of course they do.
Why would this surprise anyone? This government wants nothing less than total control of every aspect of life in airstrip one
Their ideal is a country where no one talks to anyone else, does nothing but work, go home, sleep, and eventually neatly die. Always watching and reading Government approved "news"/propoganda. This started with the smoking ban, to keep people out of pubs, known hotbeds of "ideas" which could result in the wool being removed from eyes, and heaven forfend, people voting against the glorious leaders. Next on the list is the demonising of alcohol, already starting. I only hope the public wont roll over for this too, but I suspect they will
  8. Sir Ken MacDonald, the former Director of Public Prosecutions, is a man who knows a thing or two about the inner workings of the state. he has some very deep concerns that everybody should share

"Sir Ken, who has previously warned that the Government is in danger of "breaking the back of freedom" through its creation of a security state, added:

"The tendency of the state to seek ever more powers of surveillance over its citizens may be driven by protective zeal. But the notion of total security is a paranoid fantasy which would destroy everything that makes living worthwhile.

"This database would be an unimaginable hellhouse of personal private information. It would be a complete readout of every citizen's life in the most intimate and demeaning detail. No government of any colour is to be trusted with such a roadmap to our souls."
