It’s me who has the falcon in the coffee table. I build to enjoy them. My neighbour has tried buying and then reselling sets after they have gone out of production & has never made more than a couple of quid at best. He always thinks he’s going to make a big score & never does
The lad does his six monthly valuation of his collection and tells me that it has gone up in value. He does not seem to grasp that an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. personally having been bought up playing with the stuff pre-internet I would love to see them built and put on display.
That said though we have met a couple of full-time lego dealers specialising in mint and boxed collectible sets. They do not seem to make a bad living. One told me that when he started out doing it as a side hustle buying and tucking away for five years was the norm. Nowadays, according to him, you have to buy and stash for ten years at least. He is in a position nowadays to go along and buy ten or so sets of each potentially interesting release.
I reckon the bargains of the moment for future potential are discounted on @mazon. just make sure they are in the fully boxed packaging and not the frustration free packaging.
