Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Sorry if this is a repost but i think its important

    The petition

I am not aware if you know that any Service personnel killed in Iraq
or Afghanistan, their families have to pay for an Inquest. This is
because the Government will not award the families Legal Aid.
This petition to No10 is to try and get them to change their minds,
they need as many signatures as possible to highlight the cause for
change and help the bereaved families.

Lets face it our lads get no recognition whatsoever from this
Government, we need to fight back for them.

  2. I agree wholeheartedly with this. I hope your petition goes well I have added my name and will forward it to friends.
    Best wishes
  3. I've signed it but I do not think it will get much attention. The content is almost beyond understanding - families do not have to pay for an Inquest is just a start. Maybe next time, post a draft here for comments first?
  4. Agreed, ORC. The "additional detail" provided by the petition organiser does make things clearer:

but I agree that the petition wording unfortunately does detract from its worthy intentions. [Plus, it is not only "soldiers and airforce personnel" who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.]

BAFF is actively campaigning on inquest-related issues and I wish this petition success, but sadly we cannot endorse it to the same extent that we are strongly pushing JL's petition to change current housing legislation.
