Homosexual activity was illegal in all 50 US states until 1962 and wasn't completely legal throughout the whole US until 2003. Therefore being gay made you open to blackmail and hence a security risk. And did you want potential security risks working for NASA during the Cold War?
They certainly didn't lack for Russian sympathisers in NASA or any other organ of the American state throughout the Cold War, so I don't see what your point is? Criminalisation of homosexuality led inevitably to things like Stonewall, both the event itself and the organization named after it, and frankly speaking, we could have done without both.

More from the cancel culture lot, only on this occasion, NASA has told them to do one.

What is causing real hysteria amongst the hard of thinking is the phrase, "we have found no evidence at this time that warrants changing the name of the James Webb Space Telescope"

Doesn't NASA realise that this "evidence" stuff no longer counts, and what is important these days is how people feel ?

If Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, (the loony bint in the article,) is so fired up about the name she could show her displeasure by not using it.

IIRC Septimus Severus had distinctly Negroid features.
As do many of the soldiers on Hadrian's and Trajan's column.
No he didn't. This is Severus. Please describe which of his features is/are 'distinctly negroid'. His ancestors were Roman colonists.
To support your contention please provide evidence in the form of imagery of 'negroid features' of soldiers on the columns of Trajan and Hadrian. I was unaware there was a surviving column attributed to Hadrian...as I suspect will be the Commune of Rome.

Surely you can't be serious?
I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.

Followed the link, & spotted this in the article list down the side - not sure if it fits better here or in the BBC bias thread.

Thnaks.
I missed that.
And yes, QoS was always good viewing... and now sounds like every other pile of populist poo dished up for lowest common denominator audiences.
"...a stark contrast to February 1987 when 19 million tuned in to watch Olympic equestrian Princess Anne take part."
Yep, I remember Emlyn Hughes identified HRH as John Reid in the previous week's show.

The last line stood out as typical of the time we’re in.

A Question of Sport spokesman said: 'Audience data available so far shows the new series is performing well, particularly with a young and diverse audience.'

ie Thickoes who have no general, nor sporting, knowledge.
It is sad, isn't it, as QoS would be the IDEAL platform to show a 'young and diverse' audience (and old farts) that many sportsmen and women are quite bright, and have achieved a lot. Especially those of 'minorities'.
Imagine team captains John Barnes and Jessica Ennis, with contestants like Tom Daly and that Emma tennis playing woman every so often?
On the negative side, team captains Wayne Rooney and Karen Brady....

Funnily enough, I was watching a documentary on "Have I got News For You". Ian Hislop, Paul Merton and Angus Deayton worked well together but when Angus was removed the producers were concerned that they were going to lose the viewers. First episode after Angus went, Paul Merton stepped in and things were not the same, but then someone had the bright idea of getting a different guest presenter. The rest is history,

Every right leaning guest presenter they have on gets a hard time from the panel. It’s as if they are there to be scoffed at.
The only left leaner getting pummelled was Nick Clegg after he’d gone back on his tuition fees promise & that was all done tongue in cheek.

Right leaners on the panel get piled on too.

I gave up on it a while ago. I’m tired of Mertons long face & constant Socialist Worker jibes.

It's because QoS is now a load of unadulterated rubbish. I found it difficult to understand what McGuinness was saying let alone understand the question. No more banter, just another Z list celebrity quiz show and stupid games. At least the previous boss and captains could have a bit of a laugh. Too serious now and have binned watching it even though they stick it on at some ridiculous times.

Other programmes I used to enjoy were the HIGNFY, as mentioned, and Mock the Week but they have now gone well to the Left and are no longer funny. Too much slagging off anyone with even slightly right wing views and are both rather boring now.

(In the past, when asked for favourite comedy films, I would reply Blazing Saddles, Airplane and Life of Brian. Imagine any of those being made now).

I could never answer any of the questions on the old QoS but it was fun to watch.

Life of Brian may get through as it would be above the heads of many of the new bread. I was in Canterbury when it came on the cinema and it caused an uproar then.

Through in Adam Hills Last leg, it’s a scratched record now.

Apparently the negroid features discovered on a bust and wrongly attributed as Severus by someone trying to rewrite history are this chap ..

Memnon the Ethiopian, foster child and student of Herodes Atticus; marble bust, c. 170 AD, from the villa of Herodes Atticus at Eva, Peloponnese.

A Question of Sport spokesman said: 'Audience data available so far shows the new series is performing well, particularly with a young and diverse audience.' - how does halving the viewers show it's performing well, or we're they expecting a much greater drop in viewers?

The new show is truly dreadful. That shouting northern accent is just awful..Why is this bloke even on the TV he is just so cringe!!!

richydel, Cardiff, United Kingdom, 43 minutes ago

One day it will click with the BBC - the 'young and diverse' don't watch it! My daughter is 10 yrs old...neither her nor her friends watch anything on BBC...most at that age probably don't know who or what the BBC is, and that is the next generation. It's finished I'm afraid - within the the next ten years, most primetime tv shows will be getting less than a million viewers.
