Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. "I've got the biggest...... pishing competetion!"

Can anyone hazard an educated guess at the largest (Number of soldiers, not waist size!) Regiment in the Army today?

Starter for ten, 11 EOD Regt Unit strength (on paper) = 862
  2. Judging by pub research, the SAS: there were 47,820 men at Princes Gate alone.

    HHH LE

    SAS 2.5 million and counting.

    Edited to add;
    Beaten to it
  4. Any of the infantry regiments will be larger than that as they are all(?) multi battalion entities now.
  5. Royal Regiment of Artillery
  6. Who cares, as by 2015 they'll be at least 4 more regiments binned :-(
  7. Biggest Unit - I thought one of the Loggie Regiments at Gutersloh was 1000+

Or maybe that is just rumour!

  8. Ok, I don't mean "The Regiment of..." I mean a Regiment with one RHQ.

MB, I doubt 1, 2 or 6 are manned at that level anymore? 11 Regt have been told their the biggest in the RLC (After 9 Supply).

There was a regiment with 1800 on strength back in 1987.
  10. Cheers OS, and I'm sure there was a Regiment of 4000 during WW1! Still dosn't answer todays question.

  12. RWF had 42 battalions!
  13. MPGS. Around 3500 lads and lasses with one RHQ.
  14. I'm pretty sure 5th Regiment RA has seven batteries and upwards of 1000 people now
  15. REME just shy of 10,000

you bend it, we mend it!
