Also small matter of Police having tracked location of both her mobile phones to the very location and time of the alleged offence.
And the witness cleary say she arrived and left alone.
IIRC 12 months or more porridge sees you out of the HoC.
A lot less sees you struck off as a Solicitor
Seems like a desperation ploy.
She's clutching at straws. Any custodial or suspended custodial sentence means an MP can lose their seat. They lose it automatically if they get a year or more.
As you say, she'll also be struck off as a solicitor if convicted.
The Recall of MPs Act 2015 allows for a by election if the sitting MP receives any sort of custodial sentence whether suspended or not. To trigger a by election, 10% of the electorate in the MPs constituency need to sign the recall petition, which is open for six weeks.
IIRC her majority is less than 2% and she's bang to rights so she is likely to lose her seat whatever she does.
By taking this to trial, she has nothing to lose but she is likely to lose both her political and legal careers, spend some time in prison and be unemployable after release.
All to try to avoid 3 points on her licence. IIRC a single speeding ticket doesn't even affect insurance premiums. People who are that stupid shouldn't be allowed to be MPs.
