Labour councillor cleared by judges over postal votes

#1
A former Labour Party councillor found to have taken part in "electoral fraud that would disgrace a banana republic" had his name cleared by the Court of Appeal yesterday.

Three judges quashed an election commissioner's finding that Muhammed Afzal, who was elected last year to represent the Aston ward on Birmingham city council, had been guilty of "corrupt and illegal practices" involving postal voting.

Granting Mr Afzal's application for judicial review, the Master of the Rolls, Lord Phillips, said a ruling last month by the commissioner, Richard Mawrey, QC, would be amended. The court will give its reasons later.

Ramby de Mello, representing Mr Afzal, told the judges his client had not had a fair trial at the election court.

Although Mr Afzal can now vote at the general election, he cannot stand in the forthcoming council by-election in Aston because of "general corruption" at the poll. He will stand at future elections.

But the commissioner's ruling that two other councillors in Aston were involved in illegal practices remains unaffected.

Would "later" be after the election?

Or would "later" be the same sort of later Keith Vaz was told to use;

"Right Keith to save face for the party, and to prevent anyone going to jail we need you to fall over and pretend to have a heart attack just before you go on TV to be interviewed about your illegal actions. Then we will send you on a nice long holiday, and by the time you get back we will have told all our friends in the media to forget all about what you did."

******* great cu nts, each and every one of them.

...and have 1000's of votes against his name again...all in the post. The mind boggles.

"Banana Republic" says it all.
I would like to think that this will be Blurs epitaph.
The man who reduced Britian to the status of a Banana Republic.
May he rot in hell.
