And Gandalf gets the CH - awarded for 'service' of conspicuous national importance. What... being gay? Services to gayness? Badger watching? FFS!

I don't wish to sound cynical but would she be receiving the OBE if she had not battled cancer this year.

If she is getting it for 'being brave' then I know a lot more women who should also be receiving an OBE then.

I'm pished off, my sister beat cancer this year and she did not even get an MBE.

Good to see my old Adj getting an OBE.

How can you complain about her, when Parkinson gets a Knighthood, for doing his job,and getting paid shitloads of money for doing it. ???????

The man should be shot, for 2 reasons, giving Barnsley a bad name, and introducing us to the worst singer in the world,Jamie Cullum! FFS 8O

she gets it for services to my right wrist, back when I was a young Jock, hammering one out to her posterior she so cheekily had displayed on my wall
You mean like being dressed as a maid in the Crimbo DR Who?

using that rationale, non of the military people should get awards either, afterall, they were just doing their job

On a serious note for a change it is good to see Jacqueline Wilson being made a Dame.

I took my then 7 year old daughter to a book signing by La Wilson a few years ago but she was too shy to speak and didn't want to get too close to a well known author. At the end of the book signing we were the only ones left and jacqueline spent half an hour talking to my daughter about her childhood, her life, her house, the books that she has written. She asked about school, friends, her bedroom, her little brother the did some serious questioning about why she liked the books, what was good, what was not so good etc. before signing a dozen scabby old paperbacks that we had dragged along.

As one of the world's best selling authors she didn't have to give us the time of day outside her contracted one hour book signing but she did and displayed humour and grace.

She made a small girl very happy.
