Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. The battle of Kowang San was fought on 4th/5th November 1951 it became known as the 'Guy Fawkes' battle. A communist Chinese division assaulted positions held by 1st Bn The King's Own Scottish Borderers the attack was preceded by one of the heaviest artillery bombardments of the Korean War. 1KOSB, after the initial shock, held firm. Many acts of gallantry took place that night including Pte William "Big Bill" Speakman winning the VC.

To the survivors of that battle, there are many still alive, You were some men!
  2. Echo that Buster..

Oddly enough I was reading about this the other day. With the Edinburgh crawl happening at this time I asked some of the crawlers attending if there was a chance they could get Sgt Slingsby photographed with Speakmans VC
  3. Lest we forget
