John Howard, Royal Engineers, Korea

It sounds inappropriate to describe someone who has witnessed 10 years of front line action as a lucky man but John must fall into this category simply because he survived when so many around him were less fortunate.

Three years after he is demobbed from the Royal Artillery, having served for 7 years during the Second World War, John Howard is conscripted again. Happily married and with a young family he now has to face the hardships of war in Korea.

This is the second part of an interview with John [Part 1 is on WWII]. In this interview he shares memories of the Battle of the Imjin River where 800 men of his battalion were killed or captured when they were supporting The Gloucestershire Regiment.
