KLR WW1 any history experts around?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am trying to help someone identify a photograph. We know the guy is Kings Liverpool and the photo was taken immediately prior or at the start of WW1. Uniform looks new and no badges on arms etc. He does have a white lanyard on his left shoulder though. He is wearing an 1888 pattern leather belt. No cap/hat of any description.

Can anyone help in narrowing down the battalion he might have belonged to on the strength of the lanyard? Failing that, does anyone know of a historian for the KLR? Can't find one on the net so it might mean a trip across the river to the museum unless someone knows better. Thanks.

  2. A chap who might be able to help is Simon Jones, the former curator of the King's regeimental museum collection.

I assume that his posting his e-mail address means he'd be happy to take enquiries; and a post to the 'can anybody help' pages on the same site (Birmingham's Centre for First World War Studies) could bear fruit also.
