Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. No Boots,Combats,Personel protection kit,NBC boots, vehicles VOR awaiting spares,Ect: Ect.....
Sound familiar? No this isn't more Hoon c*ck ups this was BAOR/NI mid 70's, on paper every thing was rosey, Qm stores shelves packed (with every size kit but average ) if you were 6'8'' 18 stone no probs ,size 15 DMS certainly sir, just the one pair? unfortunatly the average tom was issued with DPM patches and a tailoring chit in lue of new combats, size 8/9 boots?we had to have the damn things soled at the local cobblers (at own expence) half the vehicle fleet VOR with no bulbs or lenses, not a problem if Ivan came to call but fround on by the GCP!
And so to sunny Belfast ,Dumped in Moscow camp at dark o,clock where you were issued patrol boots. flack jackets, helmets,Ect:Ect.... ye right
Flack jackets were left in vehicles so at least the driver had one,one size DID fit all (by order of QM ) same with helmets ,you had to hope the previous wearer's personell hygene was up to scratch (excuse pun) the same went for wet weather gear and parkers. I'm still waiting for the boots! So it seems some things never change ,exept the scrotes in charge

  2. Yeah, couldn't agree more with you, but at least we are not 'EXPECTED' to pay for our kit, unlike our cousins from across the pond who get a crappy 400 dollars (average) a year to buy their uniforms and boots.

  3. They only buy their kit after basic, they all receive an initial issue. I would love to be given money each year to buy kit that fits and works. Maybe the Yanks are onto something.....

  5. Plus the Septics get kit at trade price

  6. Their kit expenditure will be tax-deductible ie. it goes on the annual tax return and offsets the tax bill.

  7. then at least you could get a pair of socks rather than have some twat go
theres only 4 pairs of socks for the battalion this month

  8. Hibby, can still remember the 70's and early 80's (as a kid, watching TV), squaddies in Ireland, regardless of the weather, just wearing combats, and motorcycle crash helmets (or something resembling them!!). You did a good job anywhooo with the shiit you were given.

  9. Cheers Gunny
But things were a tad different back in the dark ages,Most squaddies looked forward to an op banner tour, there was little or no P.C bullshyte and as long as you didn't kick the arse out of it, you were allowed to get the job done
How you boys have to operate these days, faceing enquires for having the ordasity to return fire in a contact! Hell what are you supposed to do? use harsh language ! its enough to make this old fart weep
