  1. Havent been given my kit list just wondered if anyone could give me a heads up on the things i need to start getting together for basic. Dont want to look stupid rolling up unprepared or taking to much stuff. Thanks x

  3. As I'm feeling in a particularly bored/generous mood and I pity anyone having to trawl through 70+ pages of the sticky for the answer;

    THE ESSENTIALS

    GENERAL

    £50 in cash

    Boot cleaning kit. (2 x brushes and black polish)

    Sewing kit in a case – black, white and khaki thread, needles and safety pins

    Coat hangars

    Small torch (preferably a head torch)

    Small bladed penknife (blade under 750mm)

    Pens, including black permanent marker

    Important addresses (home, next of kin)

    WASH KIT/PERSONAL

    Razor, shaving foam/gel

    Shower gel/soap

    Toothbrush and toothpaste

    Deodorant.

    Towels x 2

    Sanitary products (females)

    Hair-nets, plain hair-clip/slides,
    plain hair-bands (females)

    DOCUMENTS

    Birth Certificate

    National Insurance Card (if held)

    Passport (if held)

    Foreign and Commonwealth members should bring their visas with them

    4 x Passport Photos

    NHS Card

    Bank account number and sort code (You must open a Bank Account before arriving)

    Marriage certificate (if you are married)

    Birth certificate of children (if you have any)

    Driving Licence (if held)

    P45

    European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

    Any civilian qualification certificates

    Any legal orders relating to divorce, custody, change of name etc

    Details of any pending court cases

    CLOTHING

    Smart civilian clothes:

    Males: shirt (with collar), tie, smart
    trousers (not jeans), lace-up shoes

    Females: smart skirt, trousers,
    shirt/blouse, lace-up shoes

    One or two sets of casual civilian clothes
    for use out of work time

    Underwear for seven days. Briefs/sports
    Bras needed for PT lessons (females)

    Socks x 4 pairs. (socks to be worn with
    uniform and for PT will be issued to you)

    Natural tan tights (females)

    Nightwear (you will be sharing a room)

    Warm and waterproof outdoor coat.

    Shower footwear, such as flip-flops

    SPORTS KIT

    Swimming trunks. (not shorts) for males,
    One-piece costume for females. Plain
    design, either black or blue

    ITEMS YOU MAY BRING IF YOU WISH BUT DO NOT NEED

    Writing paper, envelopes, stamps

    Personal items (photos etc)

    Small personal radio alarm clock

    Mobile phone

    Swimming goggles

    AND YOU WON’T NEED
    Bed linen, blankets, pillows, duvet
