kingston 4gb dataTraveler

#1
I have spent about 2hrs trying to find a solution on google:

Essentially this usb stick has its own brand of encryption & file system taking up about 70mb of the drive, (the 70mb partition shows up as a read only cd.

I would like to wipe everything of the disk & start with a blank version

Has anyone had any experience of a solution for this?

I suggest you re-route the scrinson cable to the portnoy insert and see how you get on with that.

If not you could always try resetting the driver parameters to level 7 status.

You've been looking at dodgy porn haven't you.

70 Mb of 4GB is less than 2%. Do you really need all 4Gb?

thanks for your pointers so far:

i have a dual boot pc with xp & linux

I do want to remove the 70mb of software as it clashes with encryption software at work (incompatible)

MSr seemed to be on the right lines, but no such WRite protect key could be found in the registry

any other relevant ideas?

Ask your IT people at work to help.

I am the IT people,

I have tried all that I m aware of

it does seem like something which could be done with full admin right s on a home pc, with some more poweful formatting software has anyone used Blanco for something similar?

Try something like partition magic to remove the partition. A plain format wont remove the partition, or get out the old Dos Fdisk. OK showing me age lol

I use blanco at work. Never tried it on a USB though

In the command line (whilst your drive is connected to your PC USB) type in:

DISKMGMT.MSC

Delete all partitions off the DRIVE only including the reserve allocated space) and create a new partition using ALL of the available space
