just read soldier five

i just read soldier 5 and am trying to find out why mike had gold soverigns in his belt buckle, he mentions them when his guards take his belt off so he can pee, but i cant find out why he had them. anyone any clue or am i just dumb cheers - matt

Why do you think someone may have solid gold coins sewn into a bit of kit??

Perhaps you are a bit dumb? :D

SF and RAF crews carried them
If the bailed out or were behind enemy lines they could use them to bribe the local Bedowin tribes to get them back to safety

IIRC they carried a pamflet stating something along the lines of
If this person is delivered to Allied lines you will receive more gold coins
