In 2008, a Joint Services expedition climbed Makalu (in Nepal), the worldâs 5th highest mountain, but after K2 probably one of the most difficult to climb. The Mountain has never been traversed from SE to NE and the team attempted to do that. They succeeded in putting three Servicemen on the summit via the NE Ridge and reached nearly 8000 metres on the SE Ridge. Members of the team will talk about the expedition at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington on Tuesday 9th September. Tickets to the event, which begins at 7.30pm cost just £10 with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes. Book a place by going to www.justgiving.com/makalu2008.
