JSC (TA) Course for 2007

#1
Any of you kind people able to point me towards any references/dates for JSC(TA) for this year? MCM Div don't seem to have updated their web page yet and I'm anxious to bid, having been knocked back last year.

Knocked back? As usual there was at least one syndicate's worth of no-shows resulting in the standard last minute juggling of numbers. I think it was around 135 out of 150 who actually attended.

They were redrafting the programme, so I am fairly sure it will go ahead but cannot help on the dates.

Bit of a stutter there Duke :)

JSC (TA) does that not come after JOTAC? Certainly for Inf I thought it was RMAS to PCBC to JOTAC then JSC but I could be wrong :)

Whats the promotion course they are ending after this year for Capts and above?

Cheers

Surely this has been binned for JOTAC now? Ask your Adjt.

I don't believe so, at least in my case. I am a PQO and our career courses follow a different template until JSC(TA). This may be about to change though.

I am pretty sure that the last TA & Res MCM Div newsletter stated that the course was going to run in 2007.

I'd love to turn up outside course locations waiting for the places the no-shows create, but I think my employer would get upset about all the unauthorised leave I was taking!

Baz,

I did JSC TA but have never done JOTAC. Most of the people in my syndicate had done JOTAC, and used their cribs and handout from it extensively. Most said that they had found it useful, particularly if they were non-Inf, or had little experience of the combined arms side of life.

Thanks for the heads up Duke

I would love to do JOTAC but its that or camp in foreign parts or possibly JSC TA oh to have choices in life huh :)

Typical do very little course wise for 8 - 10 years then in 12 months have 4! One down last year and 3 this - don't you just love playing catch up :)

Cheers

Baz,

With your background, I would skip JOTAC if you can. The required reading from MK 1&2 gives you a good headstart. Understanding how/why battlegrouping happens will be good enough.

It was those who were very specialised (mainly REME, RMP etc) who knew their own jobs inside out and back to front but were a little stumped on the noisy parts of a conventional BG who got the most from thier cribs.

Some of the "tactical" elements of the course required them to rely on JOTAC as it was often their most recent exposure to the conventional war fighting scenarios used for the course.

JOTAC would never be enought to teach me the ES chain, but thankfully that is only a small part of JSC TA!

Sorry for the highjack Neuro,

but can you tell me what the upper age limit is for PQO ?

I'm keen to get back in, but my age is proving a stumbling block.
Probably depends on specific unit and the PQ you hold. If they need your particular skills, then it can be pretty damn old. Never any harm in asking.

Neuro, you don't bid, they send you if you are eligible to attend. My understanding is that it is running this year but, apparently, for the last time before being replaced. Get hold of your Adjt and ask him/her/it to speak with your relevant 'desk'

DFTR,

I certainly had to bid in 2006, the form had all of the usual details, plus a precis of operational/staff experience. it also had room for CO's recommendation and comments.

Duke,

It might well be that you were bidding on the under-subscribed places on the course. Glasgow produced a list of all eligible officers according to seniority date and found prior to the course commencement that there were (I think) 20 vacancies, 'cos people off the original list weren't attending.

Other than that it's yet another example of the army's ability to do things in a 'joined up fashion'.

For QARANC it's 45, more for docs - not sure for other professions

Having had the chance to ask at the weekend, I found no one in my unit who had been nominated for the course (at least above unit level). They all applied in the normal way, as for other courses.
