Joining the TA after being in the regs

#1
Can someone please give me some advice? I was in the regs for 3 years and after having confidence problems and self esteem problems I asked to leave. They let me go early. A year up to leaving I was fine, I was good at my job and got a good military conduct and testimonial when I left. The problem is that because I had these problems I’m not sure what Glasgow will say about me. I was bullied to start with as I was only 17 when I joined. And ended up self harming and I took an overdose. This was only to hurt myself not kill myself. I was stupid then. This however did not affect my work and after 6 months I was fine and was going to do my Lance jacks course but left instead. I’m really worried this may affect my chance in getting into the TA.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Were you put on any medication? I have heard (don't have fact to back this up) that you have to be clean of any meds or problems for 2 years.

My TA Coy has an individual who used a psychological problem to leave the Regs early. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it was genuine, although word from his mates suggests otherwise. He had to have an evaluation after phase 1 before beginning phase 2. That was a year ago and he's still here and a good useful member of the Coy too.

I'd expect this to be an issue specific to individuals but suggest you give it a go. Everyone should get a second chance with that sort of thing. People do change!

Go with the flow, be honest and see what happens, I joined up again after medical probs and had to see specialist but he signed me off as fit for service.

No this is the first time i have asked about this. I have been out for 3 years and was on meds for 2 months, as soon as i saw the Physiatrist she took me off them. She said I didn't need them as I only had a low self esteem and low confiedence. So for 5 years i've been fine. I really want this to work but worried that my past might let me down.

Go to your local unit and ask to speak to the Doc.

As long as you can walk and talk (both at the same time is not essential) then the TA will take you!

My conduct was top and Testimonial was bloody good. I was good at my job and worked hard. My problems never affected my work. I have put my app in yesterday so am waiting to hear from glasgow now. I'll just have to wait and see what they say.

Went to the TA centre last night. They had this recruiting evening on. I spoke to a CMT and she said that if glasgow did say anything I could see there doctor and he can review my situation then. I should be ok now. Just need to keep up my running.

Oh this will make you laugh. Found out last night I need to do my mile and a half run in under 16 minutes. I can walk it in that. Im aiming for 12.

Someones feeding you bollox. Run time for assesment is 14.5 minutes. It's only an assesment not your PFT run time.

It's all in here somewhere, just do a search.
