Joining 144 London Det

#1
Hi guys,

Just looking for abit of advice on Joining 144 Para Med Sqns London Detachment.
I left the Regular Army a little under a year ago, but I have to say I am missing it abit and whilst fully enjoying civilian life I want to keep the fire burning.
I was an Infantry Cpl, before transferring to a more specialist role where upon I qualified as a medic and military parachutist.
I'm quite passionate about my med skills and would like to keep on top of them hence the choice of wanting to join 144.
I'm planning on making the trip north of the water to visit the Det and get more information this week, but If anyone could give me a heads up on whether or not they are recruiting for CMT's, what life is like within the Det and wider Squadron and anything else that could be of interest then that would be awesome.

Cheers.

Where are you based?

A commute over the water sounds incredibly dull

I'm down near Croydon at the moment. I've got 4 Para up the road but, having done the best part of an 11 year career in the Infantry quite fancy trying something new. A 1 hour commute once a week isn't the end of the world.

Do 4 PARA have RAMC Medic's that parade with them on their training nights or is this capability supplied by 16 Med Regt?
Jock PM Well received buddy.

Link to recent exercise.
Don't listen to the dullards who think they know everything!

When was the last time you were in a clown's car anyway, Krusty walt?

OP

There's a med unit at Maidstone.

Might I suggest you pop in and have a butcher's hook?

Time spent in recce is rarely wasted.

Yes.

And remember 144 is a Sqn in 16 Med Regt.

Also as a medic in 144 you'd probably be used as a patrol medic.
With 4 Para you'd have a better opportunity to train as you would do on Ops, the downside is you'd not get much specialist medical training other than courses at 4 Para.

Knowing everything (unlike you obviously) is not one of my current skills, however speaking from experience is.

Funny that - I have found any number of people on here willing to post all manner of assumption, bluff, guesswork and lies as "truth" about almost any subject. Once arduous courses and parachuting becomes involved that goes up 10 fold - see Werewolf's post history. Here is someone who was barely in long enough to get all of his issued socks dirty yet has an opinion on every SF thread or subject.
