Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I know there's a similar (SSLC) practice in the UK, but this was just announced here today today. It's not just aimed at us Officer types, but for entry at the Digger/Tom level. A "try before you buy" I suppose - all part of the massive recruiting and retention drive going on here at the moment.

  2. Reckon we'll see a llot more old hands get out if this comes in. The experienced NCOs will be on full time instructor/mentor postings looking after the gap yearers.

Apparently it was tried a few years back and really messed the Brigade up that was used - Brissy or Townsvile I think.

  3. Yes, it was called the Ready Reserve.

This so called Gap Year is really a reinvention of the wheel.

  4. The main goal is to attract those that weren't quite ready to make a long commitment. Hopefully some will choose to stay after 12mths.
