Johnny Mercer chancer or good egg

Oddly enough, thats my hourly rate too.

Why do people stress about this? Except for envy?
Nice stealth brag

Why do people stress about it?

A 21-24 year old on minimum wage takes less than your hourly rate for a full weeks work.

Its high time our MPs are paid a significant wage for a full time job representing those who elected them. The Job Description should also require a minimum set of competencies required for acceptance as a candidate and no second jobs, no lobbying for the private sector and no family or friends on the payroll.
If that Job Description is accepted, could I suggest higher Criminal penalties (than Joe
Public ) for getting caught lying, stealing, favouring, etc, to go with it ?

Apart from, I think their paid enough for the hours they do. They also get expenses. The rest of what you said..... totally agree.!!!

No, pension planning for high earners with the means and desire to pay more than 40k pa to pension.
Plus planning for those likely to have Lifetime Allowance issues.
Bit of key man / shareholder protection.

An equitable salary based on current US Congressman standards would be c. 134k for rank and file. The amount of hours in a day and the range of issues to be dealt with are quite comparable - differences of state size and population are largely irrelevant. I would advocate that for the right people, the right contract and the right job description, we should pay that kind of a rate and get their full attention for the duration of their service. Might event attract some high achievers who would otherwise be lost to the private sector. And each one of those appointed to a ministerial position should be given a set of formal targets against which performance can be measured.

Cough . . . !!

"Allegedly" ;) .
The Cooper Letwin amendment is a fact, not an allegation. I am still working out what to write on my ballot paper about the slithy tove who thinks he can ignore a majority in his constituency and in the country.

That feckin idiot Brown.
Nope. Big Bang in the City was much earlier than that.

Ignored the massive crash in Victorian times which was the reason for regulation, and achieved Porsches, Ferraris and multiple homes for the barrow boys and girls in the city, while sowing the seeds of Northern Rock and worse.

Thank you Margaret.

There’s clearly an issue with former Army officers called Mercer who become MPs. Love posturing on the the moral high ground then plummet dramatically.

Just read his Wiki.
Sounds like a Tory but with the weakest of moral compasses.
Let him fade into oblivion at the next GE.
I'm sure he will. Dorset is traditionally quite conservative (note small C!) and have memories like elephants. Oliver will go to the Lords, watch the red benches fill up after the next GE.

Except if your years of pension saving went down with the Equitable Life. Then Prime Minister Blair said that no Government action was needed, despite useless auditing and dodgy accounts, because it was only middle class people saving to top up their state pensions.
And that was a scandal, certainly not an Equitable Life Henry!

Careful not to spoil your ballot paper!

Totally agree benchmark the spec, remove names from CVs and have an independant standards department. Sadly the level of interrogation the Bills need requires someone with a brain like a lawyer, which a vast proportion of MPs appear to be.

There is one: Misconduct in public office is an offence at common law triable only on indictment. It carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. It is an offence confined to those who are public office holders and is committed when the office holder acts (or fails to act) in a way that constitutes a breach of the duties of that office.
