Never liked Reid. 12 years in Jockland honed my understanding of what a good Jock is ( many of them, can't be beaten!) and the ones who generated the quote " There's nothing more fascinating than watching a Scotsman on the make." Reid is more than on the make, he makes my iguana look positively sociable.

yep £50k in uk account, on which tax is paid, and £450,000 in numbered swiss account. I'm not saying that is the case, but there are ways to be 'tax efficient' but one still needs to declare some ernings to the tax man or he will get curious.

Sven, why is the fact that John Major's a cnut relevant to this discussion? Or are you attempting to imply that there is nothing wrong with what Reid's doing because it is less wrong than John Major who was a 'Tory'? I don't think any of us have ever suggested that politicians are anything other than generally appalling, whatever party they belong to.

Perhaps you would care to address the subject in question instead of settling back into your comfortable role of New Labour apologist.

If other socialist men and women of the people are anything to go by, then the 50K is only the start of it. The appalling socialist millionaires daughter, Ms. Hewitt, picked up 100K from Alliance-Boots as a 'Consultant' despite having been Health Secretary only a few months earlier. She then signed up with BT for an undisclosed sum - a few more of those and you are soon talking serious money.

Does anyone believe that these MPs have sparkling and indispensable skills that cannot be found elsewhere? No, most Liarbour MPs have never had a proper job and are taken onboard by the private sector for nothing more than the contents of their address book. They are filling their boots before they lose their seats and nice little perks and sink back into the (deserved) obscurity from whence they came.

BTW, Alec_Lomas, which 'Alastair' has been 'investing' in Zimbabwe, I'm dying to know.

The point I am making is that ex politicians of both hues have always used (abused?) their former positions to seize pecunary advantage for themselves or their family. Trying to spin it as just one colour or the other is blatant sillyness.

Where did I say he did?

Did Major have anything to do with the sale of Dera. Did he subsequently make money from the company?

It's rather simple really. for a definition of democracy see The Bilderberg Group ( and for all nay-sayers, it's real, very real, and interestingly Dennis Healey, darling old socialist, was one of the original frontmen). For politics, read dancing on the end of a string, and for reward, read directorship, lecture circuit, "high" public office. For someone who turns honest and tries to spill the beans, read dead. Easy really, isn't it? Want your kids to get somewhere in this world? Teach them to be cnuts. It's the way forward.
