Poor bastard - as the son of a Stroke disabled Mother, I would not wish it on anyone.
I actually liked him more than many members of the Blair Government, as he was honest. I believe he was responsible for some of the measures that have increased the number of vessels on the UK Shipping Register. Not likely to have been noticed by many, but of huge national importance.
He was probably the only genuine speaking politician in the Blair governments. I disagreed with a lot of what he said, but at least he was honest(ish). Hope he recovers - he also has a good sense of humour and could take a piss-take well - I would have had a pint with him (so long as he bought it!)
