John Noakes Missing

#1
John, Peter & the lovely Valerie!

Former Blue Peter presenter John Noakes has been reported missing from his home in Majorca.

Police began searching for the 81-year-old after his concerned wife Vicky appealed for information which could lead to his whereabouts. Officials in the town of Andratx, where the couple live, have also put an appeal on the town hall website with two photos.

It is thought Mr Noakes may have gone for a walk early this morning.

Ms Noakes is particularly worried for her husband's wellbeing as he suffers from Alzheimer's disease and today is the hottest day of the year on the island. A former agent told Sky News that authorities cannot confirm his status as a missing person until six hours has elapsed, which is expected to be at around 3pm local time (2pm in the UK).

He was wearing blue shorts and a blue and white top when he went missing.
An Andratx local police officer said: "We are searching for Mr Noakes in the village.

"His wife reported him missing this morning. She is worried because of his state of health and the heat, which is around 35C (95F) today."

Mr Noakes is best known for fronting the children's programme Blue Peter where he holds the record for the longest serving presenter. His attempts to keep the show's excitable pet dog Shep under control led to his memorable catchphrase "Get down, Shep!"

He's fine, he's made an airco unit and distress beacon out of Fairy Liquid bottles and sticky-back plastic.

Bone, is it? Some of us young thrusters grew up with this bloke on TV, didn't realise he'd be about 81 or so . I doubt there was anything the bloke wouldn't do. Used to do "Go with Noakes " on telly about a million years ago, a particular favourite. He was the "first Brit civvy to make a five mile high free fall with the RAF" , and climbed Nelson's Column to clean off the bird lime. Sound, ballsy bloke in my book. Hope he gets home safe, dead-head is the curse of age; nowhere enough has been done in former years to combat Alzheimers, and he won't have long. The man's a forgotten legend.

well it's probably for the best, op Yewtree can't have been far off chasing him if my Mum is to be believed - he wrote a really shite book when I was a kid, he did a book signing (in WInchester possibly) he signed our copy but was waaaaay more interested in the obviously underage girls. allegedly.

steven_seagull will complain about everything, it's what they do!

If you grew up in the late 60's to mid late 70's it was either Blue Peter or Magpie.
Valerie was thought as a hotty until Lesley turned up!
And John did at the time the highest freefall in height with the Red Devils.

You know a lot about your pal 'John,' was that with the Army Red Devils or the Crab 'red devils' ?
Still, it kept him away from kids.

John Noakes parachuted with both teams, doing his initial f/fall descents with the Freds. He came to RAF Abingdon as the RAF Falcons team's regular training runs were from 12,000' which was a stepping stone to the really tall fall of 25,000'. The f/fall training team were based alongside the Falcons as instructors progressed from the display team onto the training flight.

The cine photographer on JN's televised descent was Bobby Souter, who sadly died in August of last year following a period of illness.

Not able to post the link. You Tube him manning the mast at HMS Ganges. Went as far as the last yard arm before the button boy does the last bit. That was ballsy.
