Japan PM resigns


Apart from the obvious Brown-related comment inspired by "Lost pension records, an unpopular healthcare scheme and a sliding economy have added to his woes", this is an interesting move on his part. The opposition DPJ already control the House of Councillors (the upper house) and re the largest opposition party in the lower. Although they got trounced at the 2005 election losing 60-odd seats across both houses, they're a centre-left socially democratic, non-interventionist party and would form the majority in any coalition government if the LDP loses - we might be looking at Japan cutting back on its overseas development aid, with repercussions in a wide variety of trouble spots around the globe...
