Jamie Acourt (one of the Steven Lawrence murder suspects) is arrested in Spain.

It appears that one of the suspects in the Steven Lawrence murder case, who was wanted by the Met Police, in connection to drug smuggling allegations, has been arrested in a joint operation by the UK and Spanish Police.
It'll be interesting to see whether they have any new evidence to connect him to the murder.

One wonders whether the arrest of this 'wrong 'un' was maybe after a quiet word in somebody's ear after the recent Grauniad-type 'nothing has been done X years on' campaigning?

One report (BBC) connected the arrest with drug trafficking.

I just think that once you have literally gotten away with murder, you must pretty well feel untouchable.

........or open a new can of worms.
The news report said that this arrest was not connected with the murder.
...........yet.

Maybe quite simple.

He's a shite, from a family of shites, and shites do crime.

I imagine that most of the British chav community in Spain are involved in drug trafficking, one way or another. There have been a string of recent drug busts against British gangs, so he may well have been on one of the extended gang membership lists - the Spanish are not shy about lifting everyone and anyone who might be an associate.

What! All those cocker-nee tattooed shaven headed expats didn’t make their money from the sale of their council houses? ;-)

if it said drug trafficking on the EAW they can't add on charges once he's back here because of the specialty rule - it's like the investigator can't interview someone extradited (which confuses a lot of people)

of course once we have Brexited things will be more complicated for law enforcement..............

Correct, you can't add on charges but once the poor little lamb has set foot on British soil he can be arrested again on any number of different charges.

So from sunny Spain to a UK prison cell. Presumably they have sufficient evidence to obtain a successful prosecution otherwise they wouldn't have asked Spanish Plod to lift him.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time comes to mind.

As for the Stephen Lawrence murder, I think that's a lost cause from a legal point of view. Although two individuals were eventually successfully prosecuted, it's a shame that young man won't get any justice for his death from everybody else who took part in his murder but sometimes that does happen.

I wonder if given that the murder was widely recognised as racially motivated, there may be a risk in prison to Mr Acourt from other prisoners who might have very little to lose because of their current circumstances.

Mr Acourt might want to keep away from the showers or any other parts of the prison where he may be got at by somebody seeking some form of revenge or out to make a name for themselves.

The greenhouse and the boiler room are places to avoid, unless you have a tool.
