James Bond was a rapist

Apparently James Bond was a rapist.

This isn't my personal opinion as I think Bond was a charming cad with the gift of the gab. AFAIK he never forced women, I haven't read the books though.

Sean Connery’s Bond was a rapist, says Cary Fukunaga

Cary Fukunaga, the director of No Time To Die, referred to an early Bond film where the spy has an encounter with a woman in a steam room. He pressures her into sex after threatening to complain to her bosses over his near death on a traction machine.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Fukunaga said: “Is it Thunderball or Goldfinger where, like, basically Sean Connery’s character rapes a woman? She’s like, ‘No, no, no,’ and he’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ That wouldn’t fly today.”

It was believed that the scene referred to included Connery and the actress Molly Peters...

I wonder what Mr Fleming would say? No doubt Bond will be played as a black lesbian in future series.

Interesting post, which highlights the fact that sex in mainstream movies has always been framed in societal norms and social mores of the time in which the film was made. The whole 1940s thing (seen in countless Hollywood and British films of all genres) of the hero firmly, assertively grasping the leading lady and smothering her with a deep kiss, would no doubt be seen as needlessly aggressive by today's popular media standards.

Equally, today's depictions of S&M, bondage etc. as per Fifty Shades of Grey, would be anathema to 1940s audiences. Not to mention same-sex action!

That's why I don't think we should be so judgmental of specific scenes in old movies without factoring in the wider social norms of the time.

Right accusation. Wrong Bond.

Daniel Craig in "Skyfall", allegedly the "Best Bond Film EVAHH!!! You guys!!!" portrayed Bond anally raping in the shower an already traumatized woman, who he later stood by and watched get shot by the film's villain.

It's one of the main reasons why I only usually refer to the previously-named twat as the "Blond Bint".

BTFW, in the new Bond film "No Time To Die", 007 is played by a black female actor type. I have no interest in how they're going to sort out having a white British/Irish/Puerto Rican man to once again be both Bond and 007 in the next film as the Blond Bint's put me off the franchise for life.

The opinion of anyone who uses the word 'like' in that way can be dismissed.

It's an appropriate usage of the word like.

As Sean Connery was Scottish, he actually said "Yesh, Yesh, Yesh"...which is like "Yes"...

I suppose the equivalent these days would be if Bond was portrayed as a trans-exclusionary radical feminist who dead-named any trans characters & tried to erase their existence by making a fuss about their presence in female only spaces.

I'm not averse to the next Bond being played by a back person. My preference would be Sir Lenny Henry, and he should play him with his black cuntreye accent just to **** with the Americans. Instead of the cliché facing off with the main bad guy in a suave sophisticated casino, it should be a grotty Ladbrokes whilst they're betting on the dogs.

Killing all the bad guys by bad mouthing them on social media. Bond's new weapons Twitter and Facebook.

You white people need to have a conversation about de-colonising your entertainment industry.

Then, you need to have a conversation about de-mysogynising your entertainment industry.

Then, you need to have a conversation about how your institutional bigotry destroyed your entertainment industry.

Anyone offended by the tone of the older films had best not read the books then: they'd be reaching for the smelling salts and the cancel button at the same time.

Bond was written as a good-looking, hard-drinking, chain-smoking bastard who kills for his country. He can be charming and sophisticated, but also remains, in many ways, a rather unpleasant man.

**Edited to add that I enjoyed the books very much! But they were 'of their time'.

Another film that would never make it through the censors would be Once upon a time in the West (one of the best films ever made, IMHO).

One of the final lines in the film is (one of the antiheroes) Cheyenne, saying to Jill "You know what? If I was you, I'd go down there and give those boys a drink. Can't imagine how happy it makes a man to see a woman like you, just to look at her. And if one of them should, uh, pat your behind, just make believe it's nothing. They earned it."

According to Fleming in "The Spy Who Loved Me" Bond was a "Semi-Rapist"...

Again, 'of their time'.
Changing the narrative to appease the woke masses isn't going to change history, or the way men treated women in those days. Either in reality, or in portrayal.
A film like Get Carter?
And the bint he half-drowned in the tub, then shoved in the boot?

She WAS a product of her time - a drunkard, druggie, loose knickered, shag anything, 'liberated' woman.
Much like many who feature on the daily mail 'day at the races' or 'girld night out' pages.
Make a film about some loose moralled hedonistic **** receptacle, and the feminists would be up in arms.

James Bond, osteopath to the intelligence community?
