connery's overrated. he plays one part in every role - connery. the only russian submarine commander with a scottish accent ffs.

intriguing theory on the theme song btw.

I'm taken with the theory that 'James Bond' is just a codename and not his *actual* name. it falls down in places, but it does explain the change of person from film to film and why he doesn't age too much (eg a 40-something Bond in Dr No would be due his telegram from Her Majesty, if not already in receipt of it).

Your theory has precedent, Richard Tomlinson's book describes his interviewing officer as a Mr Green. Who was replaced by another Mr Green during his induction. Same with M etc.

I should stress it's not my theory, I can't take any credit for it. there are obvious flaws, but then there are merits to it too.

Ive enjoyed all the Bond films starring Daniel Craig, why do you say they are terrible?

The only Bond ones I don’t like are those with Timothy Dalton.

Timothy Dalton just played the role for the greater good, the greater good...

Be fair, Casino Royale was terrific. The last two probably overrated, but at least Craig hasn't been in anything as awful as Moonraker or View to a Kill.

I desperately hope there isn't too much woke nonsense in this one. At least we seem to have dodged the bullet of Hiddlestone as Bond.

But without Moonraker we'd never had Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Bump! Serious rumours swirling this weekend that Tom Hardy will be the next Bond. I don't feel too bad about this, he has that air of danger that Bond needs. And at least it'd mean we dodged the bullet of Tom Hiddlestone as Bond.

He’s not black enough.

I wouldn't worry, the Broccolis aren't daft enough to trash a Billion pound franchise. No chance of concessions to wokeism in Bond.

In fact, I'd hope casting Hardy would mean the films will continue with Bond being a well dressed bastard who'll happily shoot to kill. No jokey nonsense a la Roger Moore. And no safari suits!

I was playing for laughs. I don’t see how they could cast a black Bond without compromising the whole back story. Particularly as the Craig films have carefully filled in that story.

TBH I reckon the next Bond is a bit of a poison chalice. Craig is Bond now. I also struggle to see how they can keep it relevant with any degree of credibility. Dragging out the DB5 for ever more unrealistic stunts doesn’t really cut the mustard.

A new Bond is an opportunity to reset.

It should be (no-shit, I've been saying this for years and I swear on a stack of calico kittens I'm not taking the piss) Chiwetel Ejiofor. For why, watch "Serenity", or even just clips of his character, "The Operative" when he's on-screen. He is terrifying when he needs to be, can turn on the charm on and off like a switch, and has no hesitation when he needs to kill.

As an example, here's his character introduction:

Yon's a better Bond portrayal in four minutes and twenty-five seconds than the Blond Bint has given in hundreds of hours of movie time. Only things that are missing are the vodka martini and the code name.

Connery has a fairly decent range - but you are quite right that he only does the one accent.

He looks more like a young Idi Amin to me.
