Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Poem I found

It's the Soldier by Father D.E. O'Brien, USMC

It's the soldier, not the reporter,

Who has given us freedom of the press.

It's the soldier, not the poet,

Who has given us freedom of speech.

It's the soldier, not the campus organizer,

Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It's the soldier, not the lawyer,

Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It's the soldier who salutes the flag, Serves under the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.
  2. And did Father O'Brian pass his GCSE by submitting this then?
  3. No, they don’t have GCSEs in the US

  4. Is that cos the septics are too thick to pass them?
  5. Errrr…no, they have a different education system to ourselves and don’t have GCSEs.

Is “cos” even a word in English??
How did you get on with your GCSEs? :D
  6. I am proud to say that I have no GCSE's whatsoever, due to the fact I am an old fart who sat 'O' Grades.
  7. Never read that poem before CJ, liked it though.
  8. Thanks bagster. I came accross it. The site I saw it on was actually full of rubbish, but this was a decent one :)
  9. And they say education standards are slipping :D
  10. No bitching. No mention of alcohol. No pursuit of fat women. Are you sure this is really about soldiers?
