ITC Catterick - Thread for those joining in 2018

I asked the recruitment office that on monday, they never gave much more info then “infantry have quite a lot of intakes every year” :frustrated:

Are you asking for you? If so what battalion are you looking to join?

I re enlisted in June and I want to join armoured Infantry 5 Rifles.
3 rifles am wanting to join hopefully I'll get that regiment, but all depends on numbers

Buzzing even tho I'll be 31 next month so probs get beasted at basic training, hahaha what you joining?
Haha, I’m 29 7months now prob be the same 30-31 by the time I get in too.

Hope to join armoured Infantry 5 rifles, although 3 And 4 have tickled my fancy also.

What’s your 1.5 like? I kinda let my self go around two years ago.
I’m still fit and strong but my running is a joke lol. Blowing and sweating at the end of each session. I’ve been running a lot to help expand my smokers lungs, been smoking since I was 10, disgusting I know. Started running again last month 1.5 was around 20 mins first go o_O with a few stops/slow walks.
Done it in 11:23 yesterday, so it’s getting better.

Hopefully they have a bit more respect for us older guys lol, as long as we are fit enough and more respectful then the young-uns.

I bet your buzzing, I can imagine. How long did it all take, from signing up to now?

I went to selection last month passed selection but got deferred due to needed me eyes tested this is now sorted . Me 1.5 mile run at selection was 10.40 was happy with that tbh. Same here am a heavy smoker lol. Good tip for you don't concentrate on your 1.5 mile run . Run slower but longer build up your endunce then u will piss the 1.5 mile run. First it will be your grenade test and your team tasks after that it's your 800m warm up then your 1.5 mile run remember make sure u take a water bottle with you as I forgot, I run 5k a day . 3 rifles is the reg I want am from Newcastle so when am on weekend leave it's a 2hour drive home to see me kids and gf. My application was 5 month ago. Some people are waiting up to a year to get a date for basic training so am happy with that . .

If you want to know any more about selection let me know I could go on and about selection. Wish you the very best in your application dude

6 Intakes for the rifles and Guards and 10 overall infantry are scheduled between now and Mar 19, however, it all depends on numbers as to whether they are run or not, hence the reason you will not get a clear answer from the careers office.

WOW 5 months is really good from what I’ve read. It took me 11 months in 2007 when I joined RLC as a specialised driver.

Thanks that’s great advice, I’ve read a few posts saying that too.
I shall start the 5k’s tonight.
And the water bottle tip, is also noted ;)

No kids here or partner so I don’t mind how far away I am lol

Thanks for the well wishes good sir!
I hope you smash catterick and join the 3rd battalion, all the best to you too brother.

Hey can anyone tell me how many intake dates do catterick have a year for the rifles?
There are generally a couple of intakes a month for the infantry training at Catterick - they take all cap badges at the same time, so no specific dates for Rifles.

Your ACC will be able to tell you specific dates, although it is down to the Loading Team at the NRC as to what date you get,

Got a four year deferral in April 2013 for asthma so I’ve basicallt waited 5 years to go again, applied in February and took a 3 month fitness diary and jumping through whatever hoops they put in front of me just to earn a selection date so a fair while mate all in all this application has taken just over 7 months

That’s shit that at least your in now. Mine has been a year but that’s my own fault for changing my mind all the time and getting injured I think I could have been in after 5 months. How’s the fitness? I haven’t been able to do anything for 2 months only just getting back into it

Fitness isn’t too bad, bearing in mind in February I couldn’t run 1.5 miles start to finish and was 14 st 2 lbs, I managed my 1.5 mile run in 11.20 and got the maximum score on the jerry cans and power bag lift, and have managed to get my weight down to 12 st 4 lbs. I still need to improve my running to get to the 10.30 PFA time, but I’m sure Catterick will whip me into shape pretty quick. Just get back into it progressively mate last thing you wanna do is injure yourself and have to wait even longer. Next intake after ours isn’t until January
