IS TA RLC THAT DIFFERENT FROM ITS REGULAR COUNTERPART.

I've not met that many TA soldiers, but I'd like to say the ones I have met are just like Regulars.

Some are smart, professional, keen and willing to learn and some are just along for the ride.

Just done a course with some TA chaps, and a female officer asked what I did in civvy street. My answer of "I tend to get sh*t faced Ma'am" went right over her head.

Similar to the TA bod who asked the 2Med Bde Brig what he did in civvy street

As a Territorial I would say that the Regs should be better. If they are not then there is something wrong.

A long time ago a Regular Brigadier said in a speech that the differance between the two was that the TA did something until they got it right, whilst the Regulars did something until they didn't get it wrong.

I`d like to suggest that there isn`t a massive difference between the two.
I think the main diference is that the TA do less days as military bods and have civvy jobs but regulars are permanently employed in the Army.

Fancy not knowing that! Tchh

Or am I missing the point? :p :p :p

I agree some stabs are dead keen and switched on and some are a waist off space.I spent a few years as an RCT Stab then transfered to the regs, I have to say some of the guys in my troop wouldn't have lasted two minutes in the TA.[/quote]

Having worked with the TA on Ops I find that the ex-regular guys are good, the rest are useless, fat, whinging incompetants. Don't get me started on those RLC specialists from Grantham!

There are several issues to sort here. Yes the Reg Army should be better at the day to day Army stuff. The TA should be better at adapting to what is expected of them. The Trg time that th Regs get is obviously greater as TA have a min req to do in a callender year.
This is stunning stuff huh!

The Reg's should understand one thing, when TA bods are mobilised they are moving form what they do every day. They trg every day for this, they studdy for it and practice it.
That is waht the Reg's do with the Army stuff.

Could the average Reg adapt in the time they would get, if mobilised to the wonderful world of Civvi.

Maybe maybe not!!

I have seen both sides of the coin, there are many TA soldiers who I would go any where with and plenty who I would not.

The funny thing is that the Regs are the SAME.

You can't compare the two, they have to be put into seperate areas and assesed on what either can or cant do to achieve the main effort and Msn.

I don't believe the TA deserve any special dispensation, at the end of the day we all have terms of service that we sign up to and for which we get paid!

If more Regs were actually FE there would be no need for so many TA Soldiers to fill the gaps!
Remember that a lot of injuries to Reg pers downgrading them are caused by Op tours, exercise, military work. Are you saying that the TA are 100% FE?

Do you know the proportion of TA who are not FE compared to the Regs?

How many Regs would NOT want to see the TA on tour? We are all the same Army with the same aim. The TA have an important part to play.
