Is Movement Conservatism actually at all conservative?

  1. Movement Conservatism is what the GOP tends to think of as The Base. A strange alliance of culture warriors Evangelicals and free market fundamentalists. Actually most folks who vote GOP poll as pretty skeptical on the ideological details but they do get marginalized by the shoutier bits of the party.

    Actually this is fairly obvious the answer to this question is a fairly obvious no. Movement Conservatism is a departure from the generally dull, sober, conservative tradition of US politics since the late 19th century. The 21st century Dems in the US are the party of inaction and stasis, most the party would rub along well with old school paternalist Tories. It's the wilder bits of the GOP that are Jacobins set on tearing down the house. No insult intended, the passion is admirable. The extreme caution and ideological timidity of the Dems under Barry or Clinton are hardly assets.
