Is joining the TA worth it

#1
Im in a bit of a dilema.
I have been a civvie for 2 years now after 22 years service and I am mulling over the idea of joining the TA.
My Q is if I decide to join the TA would it be as good as when I was a regular?

It depends what you join, where you join and what you do. I am in a specilaist RLC unit and have a fantastic time. No parade nights, but away every month up and down the country. My old unit was a signals unit based in a TA centre in the south-east. Parade nights were dull, the training was rubbish and we didn't go anywhere.

Try it and see.

It will be different: better in some ways, worse in others.

The only way to find out is to go along and ask, If you re-join within 3 years of leaving you will keep your rank and start on the fifth year bounty.

What he said. It has pluses and minuses. The same as the Regs, but the bounty and pay are not to be sniffed at.

But as already said think a bout a specialist unit. Might be worth it if you cant fullly committ.

Plus some of your qualifications that you had in the Regs may be of some use to a new unit. Cant really say as I don't knwo your background.

Have a look around keep an open mind give them all a call for a lie of the land and a feeling of how they operate.

Hope that helps

Remember in the regs you used to sit around stores or garages most of the time, waiting for the exersises and adventure training ? Well in the TA you get to cut out the waiting around bit and just get the hilights !
