Is it time for another General Election?

We get some decent coverage of the whole Brexit fiasco over in Canada and I still don't feel qualified to make an opinion on stay / remain but fwiw I think Teresa May has really been trying to get the best deal possible to brexit but has been getting screwed over by politicians looking out for themselves and far less interested in doing the right thing for Britain as a whole.
Its not a good deal, David Davis and his replacement weren't allowed to be involved, May appointed a CS from her HO days (both her and him are remainers) and they are both determined to stay in the Eu at all costs even a general election it seems. A No deal exit is better than a bad deal and the Irish border? Let the Eu pay to have it policed!

At the moment the DUP are the only thing protecting the government. That may not last.
Oh yes it will. At the moment the DUP are in a position of power, after the next election they are very likely to be just another irrelevance and they know it, so they will hang onto that power as long as possible.

People are fed up to the back teeth with the whole political structure tbh.
Brexit was voted for, politicians are forgetting that they are there to implement the will of the people.

The people voted out , so out we must come. Regardless of the politicians personal views.
Ah but not if you believe you're a very clever MP who understands the real issues and the electorate are just dumb vote fodder who need to be saved from their own stupidity.

Obviously Bo Jo and JRM are jockeying to become the next Tory PM and this is taking precedence over all other considerations.

The Marxist SNP want another referendum, and will continue to do so until they get toe outcome they want. The remoaners are out to torpedo Brexit in it's entirety, and damn the voters.

Yes and shooting you in the collective dick and kneecapping us in the process. If the US-UK relationship goes down the drain you can very well kiss NATO goodbye. You are the bedrock nation on that side of the pond because well France is France and Germany gives no fucks as long as they control the Euro. Would JC really be that ******* dumb to give the US reason enough to abandon Europe and just focus on the Pacific??

Yes - he is a Communist. Worse still he is a pacifist - the sort of person who believes in teaching children not to hit back. I bet Putin is laughing his cock off at the moment.

The other day I was watching the first episode of the mini series The Winds Of War and the list of failures to stand up to Hitler was damning.

Versailles treaty reneged on - no response
Rearmament of Nazi Germany - no response
Reoccupation of the Rhineland - no response
Occupation of Austria - no response
Occupation of the Sudetenland - no response
Etc etc etc

In true lib dem style hopefully with the same outcome, banished into political irrellevance

Tory remainers are his best hope, how far are they prepared to throw their dummies out of their pram?

TBH is there any difference in being an opposition backbencher and a government backbencher you still have your snout in the trough your just shouting in a different direction in the house

As interesting thought.

'And then there is the 2011 Fixed-term Parliaments Act, which—in theory—pegs elections at five year intervals. Only in theory, because in practice the Act was short-circuited in one of the only two elections staged since it was passed, a short-circuit May herself engineered in misguided pursuit of a crushing majority. (She needed the blessing of her MPs for that, which they were happy to give when her party was streets ahead in 2017; today they could and would veto a straightforward appeal for a dissolution under the act).

'So will an election really have to await the scheduled 2022, a political age away in current circumstances? Not necessarily. Because while the detail of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act might look devilishly hard to wriggle round, its existence could be easily dispensed with. Indeed, one forgotten pledge from May’s star-crossed manifesto reads: “We will repeal the Fixed-term Parliaments Act.

'The Lords wouldn’t stand in the way—convention dictates they nod manifesto pledges through. But what about May? Could she really whip 100 per cent of her MPs against a pledge every one of them was elected on? Perhaps, but from the opposition perspective that would still make for some amusing political theatre. How much better it would be, however, if she were to seize the initiative, honour her own pledge and thereby free herself to force Brexit to the resolution that is urgently required.'

There is one way out of the Brexit impasse that no one has noticed

So far few Tories have resigned the party whip, it may force others to do so and this alone should cause Mays advisors to think again!

IMHO, Comrade Corbyn would pull the UK out of NATO and invite the Russians in within 3 months of gaining power, followed by a 'state of emergency' suspending all elections indefinitely.

I think something that drastic would result in JC getting a one way trip to GITMO.

Don't think another GE would benefit us, just a way of swerving democracy and ignoring the masses while hoping to keep seats. Labour IMHO are dead in the water, Tories not an ideal alternative, Lib Dems and others of no consequence. Another election and I see a sub 30% turnout. People are fed up with politics now. They spoke and were ignored, so wat's the point? Trouble is we'd still get the same self serving tossers, just different names.
