Sorry, going to have to disagree. Battles got well and truly lamped by German organic AAA in Belgium trying to hit river crossings.
You and I are going to have to disagree on this.
Battles would have been operating with no threat of fighter attack doing what they were quite good at, light bombing.
Ireland was a maximum range mission for German medium bombers.
Other than Dublin, there was nothing of note to bomb in Ireland
The Kreigesmarine made it abundenty clear in the plan to attack Ireland it could provide no support, it would be strictly a parachute operation.
The German ‘plan’ such as it was was to land Praratroops in Wexford, not because Wexford was the best target, but simply that was as far into Ireland as the JU’52’s coujd reach, hope the IRA would rise up in support, and march on Dublin to topple The government.
It was a bloody stupid plan considering the Paratroops would have only small arms abd mortars, no heavy weapons, no vehicles, and were going to advance directly towards the centre of thec rish military establishment, the Curraagh and Baldonal airfield, through the most populous part of Irelavd and the best defensive country.
Genious German planning called for the seizing of civilian vehicles and fuel stocks to get the troops mobile...bit of a bugger, most villages has at best one car, and towns not much better. Fuel was in critically short supply in the Republic. The prime mover for rural ireland in 1940 was very much the ass and cart.
Meanwhile, the British would have sent two Divisions south from the North, and Royal Marines from Wales to the south.
And yes, the British plan to go south to aid the free state did include artillery and AA units. There were extensive stocks of pre positioned supplies kept around Belfast.
