Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's prime minister said on Tuesday he would release 2,500 prisoners in an unexpected move amid talk of a power struggle in his ruling Shi'ite Alliance.

Whats wrong with that? New Labour have released similar amounts of killers onto our streets too.
  2. True.

But what concerns me is the second last paragraph:

" "Maliki's government may only last for another 6 months. That is what many think. There is too much pressure and too many players," said a Shi'ite Alliance source outside of Maliki's Dawa party."

If Maliki's releasing solely those who he feels will help his support base, what's to stop the next guy doing exactly the same thing in 6 months time, causing the whole situation to escalate?
