Iranian nuclear scientist ‘assassinated by Mossad’
    Sarah Baxter, Washington

A PRIZE-WINNING Iranian nuclear scientist has died in mysterious circumstances, according to Radio Farda, which is funded by the US State Department and broadcasts to Iran.

An intelligence source suggested that Ardeshire Hassanpour, 44, a nuclear physicist, had been assassinated by Mossad, the Israeli security service.

Hassanpour worked at a plant in Isfahan where uranium hexafluoride gas is produced. The gas is needed to enrich uranium in another plant at Natanz which has become the focus of concerns that Iran may be developing nuclear weapons.

According to Radio Farda, Iranian reports of Hassanpour’s death emerged on January 21 after a delay of six days, giving the cause as “gas poisoning”. The Iranian reports did not say how or where Hassanpour was poisoned but his death was said to have been announced at a conference on nuclear safety.

Rheva Bhalla of Stratfor, the US intelligence company, claimed on Friday that Hassanpour had been targeted by Mossad and that there was “very strong intelligence” to suggest that he had been assassinated by the Israelis, who have repeatedly threatened to prevent Iran acquiring the bomb.

Hassanpour won Iran’s leading military research prize in 2004 and was awarded top prize at the Kharazmi international science festival in Iran last year.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to announce next Sunday — the 28th anniversary of the Islamic revolution — that 3,000 centrifuges have been installed at Natanz, enabling Iran to move closer to industrial scale uranium enrichment.

Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency say that hundreds of technicians and labourers have been “working feverishly” to assemble equipment at the plant.
  2. You know, call me crazy, but I'm not sure that using a propaganda station to announce that a US ally is assassinating Iranian citizens is necessarily the best way of getting the Iranian government to start playing nice- exactly at a time when the Iranians are making their first welcoming overtures in months regarding monitoring the state of their nuclear programme.

On the other hand, if you want Ahmadinejad to close up the shop to visitors again, and you want to increase the level of support he has in his country from appearing to stand up to the "Great Satan", then it sounds like a great idea. I'm not sure what could be gained by this though. Iran's refusal to cooperate with the IAEA and any policy that could be construed as anti-American would only serve to give you reason to atta... oh, hang on a minute. Never mind- I think I've just answered my own question.

(W@nkers. Absolute fcuking w@nkers. They really do think the rest of us came down the river on a bike, don't they?)

  3. uh huh
  4. If true, its an act of war and Iran is perfectly entitled to retaliate, whether in Iraq or elsewhere.
  5. The Israelis assasinated Iraqi scientists to delay Saddam's nuclear program. As for an act of war what about Iranian missiles falling into Israeli cities fired by Iran's proxy Hizbollah ?
  6. Exactly how does that differ from American missiles, cluster bombs, MLRS rounds etc falling on Lebanese cities fired by US proxy Israel ? Just asking.

And I'm genuinely interested in an answer, I'd love to hear how you rationalise such hypocrisy.
  7. Self defense ?
  8. Taz
I'm not sure how having one of your scientists reportedly assassinated by Mossad entitles Iran to retaliate in Iraq or was that irony?
  9. Whose?
  10. They could (reportedly) assassinate an Israeli scientist in Tel Aviv, maybe. Seems proportionate to me.

Alternatively they could follow Israel's lead and randomly select a handful of non-involved civilian targets and give them a good shoeing - then call it self-defence.
  11. Gerald Vincent Bull (March 8, 1928 - March 22, 1990) was a Canadian engineer who many consider to have developed long range artillery beyond what anyone else has accomplished. He was a driven man, who moved from project to project always chasing his dream of economically launching a satellite using a huge artillery piece. To this end he designed the Project Babylon "supergun" for the Iraqi government, during which he was murdered (assassinated) outside his home in Brussels, Belgium.

Bull concurrently worked on the Scud project, making calculations for the new nose-cone needed for the higher re-entry speeds and temperatures the missile would face. At this point someone started "warning" him to stop working on the missiles; over a period of a few months his apartment was broken into several times but nothing was stolen. He nevertheless continued to work on the project, and in March 1990 he was shot five times in the back of the neck while opening his door.

The most common theories are that either; the Israeli Mossad was responsible due to the method used (small-caliber, sound-suppressed pistols), or that it was Iranian Intelligence VEVAK, who had the motive and capacity to easily have it done. Neither VEVAK nor Mossad representatives have denied responsibility for his assassination. Others, including Bull's son, believe that the Mossad is taking credit for an act they did not commit to scare off others who may try to help enemy regimes. The alternative theory is that Bull was killed by the CIA. There are some reports that Bull was demanding both a presidential pardon and money from the CIA or he would disclose all he knew about illegal CIA activities in South Africa. Unwilling to be extorted, it is claimed that the CIA therefore killed Bull. However most experts and analysts believe that either Israeli Mossad or Iranian VEVAK are the key suspected ones behind the assasination. Both strongly had the capacity and motive to stop Saddam from acquiring such an intimidation/terror weapon. A fictionalized version of this story is in the movie Doomsday Gun. Gerald Bull had worked for so many parties in so many critical defence projects that he became an asset and a liability for several powerful groups at the same time.

    "Gerald Bull"

Using a US government-funded Farsi language radio station to trumpet this story of how Mr. Hassanpour died was an interesting touch.
  12. I dont think the Israelis did kill this guy but theres no harm in saying they have. :cyclopsani:

Besides none of the thousands of scientists, engineers and technicians involved in Iran's nuclear program are individually crucial to the program's success.

That'd be a hell of a lot of wet jobs :sweatdrop:

In any case it'd be too little too late. See the Iranians have got it all figured out, they're far too clever for Great Satan and Co.

T6, you've been watching too much Bond!
  13. The Israelis have a presence in Kurdish northern Iraq, as was brilliantly exposed by the Beeb last year.

If it ever kicks off those swine and their Kurdish hosts are going to get it!
  14. An act of war?

We’re either being a little dense or a little selective here are we not?

What you seem to be omitting to consider is that in effect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad HAS ALREADY declared war on the State of Israel!

He has inferred that Iran is desperately struggling with advanced missile technologies to enable Tehran to target and eliminate the State of Israel.

He has openly boasted that the destruction of ‘the Zionist Entity’ is immanent and has also boasted that ‘the Zionist Entity’ will very soon disappear.

The 1948 Genocide Convention classifies incitement to commit genocide as a crime against humanity with the explicit purpose of eliminating genocidal murders before they can implement their evil schemes.

Given all the facts including the fact that Ahmadinejad remains securely in Tehran within Iranian borders it seems highly unlikely that someone is going to go in there and bring him out to stand before the International Court of Justice at The Hague.

Given the realities, and bearing in mind that Ahmadinejad has declared the desire and intention to eradicate the State of Israel by military means, seems feasible that the highly successful operatives from Mossad are active on the ground.

The actions of a Mossad team systematically assassinating key figures working to attain weapons of mass destruction that Tehran has made plain it plans to use against Israel cannot be construed as an act of war but is more aptly described as a precise pre-emptive strike.

No tears will be shed here for the Iranians, seems Israel is demonstrating that she cannot afford to play the waiting game especially as they’re the one’s in the crosshairs

Littering Iran with the corpses of those who are hell bent on the destruction of Israel sounds like a reasonable response to me – certainly beats the bullshit of unworkable sanctions doesn’t it?
  15. Taz

If this ever kicks off as you say, you can be certain that the ones who are going to 'get it' are the Iranians. Israel cannot afford to wait and will not, they are in a struggle for their survival and the survival of their state.

Pity the cretins in the political echelons of the West fail to realise that if Israel is ever defeated, this will not signal a new era of coexistence and peace between Islam and the West, it will signal a reinvigorated effort to subjugate the Western powers to impose their world calephite.

We in the West laugh and what we percieve to be such silly unrealistic notions, whilst they are deadly serious about it, it would be better to recognise the ally we have in Israel and stop fooling ourselves that if Israel were to disappear so would the problems, the Islamic fundamentalists have repeatedly warned the West of this factor so what is it we don't comprehend?

All together now ... Allah Akbar
