Intelligence Officer: RAF vs Army

The level of fitness, endurance, robustness and strength required for the Raf Reg is exactly the same as any other infantry unit, and guess what. There's a pretty hard swim test (which I failed first time round).

Thanks. Basically, I’m really fat and old and there’s no way I would make it into the army so I figured o would join the RAF gunners as I have heard that they will take anyone with a pulse. Then I thought, if I somehow managed to get a bit fitter and dye my hair, I could try and transfer across to an infantry unit without anyone noticing.
I know I shouldn't keep biting but I can't help it. Just so you know, despite the RAF bending over backwards to try and make it happen, so far only one female (from a vast number who have tried) has yet passed the Gunner course. So if you, as a fat 37 year old unfit non-swimmer, think you are more capable than every single female recruit who has ever tried to get their mud guards then go for it. I doubt you'd even pass the phase 1 fitness tests for blanket stickers and pen pushers if you're unfit and fat. You don't stand even the slightest chance of becoming a Gunner.

RAF Regiment is an option and I would be attracted by it but the reputation painted of it (whether true or not) now has me wondering if that is a good idea.
One more thing then I'll feck off and wind it back in. Just to ensure that you are fully aware of what you are suggesting. This is an army site founded on banter and piss taking. If the extent of your research into the RAF Reg has been done here or on other army forums then your opinion is understandable. However, as is traditional in these cases, I would urge you to contact recruitment and see if you can have a look at a RAF Reg field squadron on an open day or something. The RAF Reg has a range of specialist roles, has parachute capable troops, and is well represented in 22 SAS. Tell them how a fat knacker like you can easily get into their beloved Corps and see if they agree.

sorry Auggie - no need to bite It was purely jest to try and kill off the inevitable comments every time someone mentions RAF Reg on this forum. I have the utmost respect for all branches of the armed forces. I’m also genuinely interested in RAF Reg (I only discovered it existed this week). I thought it would be a good alternative since I’m too old to join as a regular in the army other than as a dentist.

And one more time...if your post isn’t accurate, up to date and helps to answer the question it doesn’t belong on a recruiting board.

Keyboard commandos, lamp swingers etc to the NAAFI or old and bold.
