Integration- What is it?

When immigrants come to the UK they should :

Integration ="to mix with and join society or a group of people, often changing to suit their way of life, habits, and customs"

Theres a lot of hype in the media lately about ethnic communities and integrating into British culture , my view is very much "When in Rome ..." I`ve lived in several countries and have always made a big effort to learn the lingo and socialise / work with the natives , I dont follow any religion so that was never an issue.
Its totally wrong to expect the UK to change its ways to suit immigrants although many immigrants seem to think we should change our culture! , being allowed to be here should be bonus enough .

As the OP said - when in Rome. They should also realise that UK isn't a prison - they can leave any time they want. They shouldn't expect any freebies when they arrive either unless they are genuine refugees fleeing war.

I remember one ethnic "community leader" saying integration is a two way street , no it isnt , adapt or **ck off.

In my mind when people immigrate to another country they should do their best to learn the language of said country, live by the laws and regulations of said country, respect the pre-existing culture and not attempt to replace or remove it. Contribute to the society as a whole and not plan on living off handouts by the state for the rest of your life and actually approach and interact in a positive way with the indigenous or pre-existing population instead of walling yourself off from the rest of the country with your own tribe.

If you can't adapt and live by those standards I don't understand why people would stay.

Bonus points for not complaining about how everything isn't like the country you left.

My lad made me chuckle recently while watching the news.

"It must be scary in Syria if they don't feel safe enough to stop fleeing until they reach Britain"

He must get his cynicism from his mother.

Integration. In over 400 years it hasn't happened in Northern Ireland, I'm not sure why we expect it to happen here

I don't know his mother - unless she's an arrser, but if he's anything like his dad...

Integration.......I'm sure it's a regular discussion point by the British ex-pat community in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol as they tuck into their full English and laugh at the locals and their silly habits and way of speaking. "The missus does all the shopping as I can't speak a fekin word of Spic"

I think thats an IQ issue as much as integration.

I think people come to the UK for different reasons than people leave the UK for work or retirement. Expectations are completely different.

The deal for people coming here is, you work, pay taxes, obey the law and everything else is yours.

I don't think society is harmed if people don't participate fully in society but it is undermined if people don't contribute with their taxes and support the national institutions. Even more so if they are allowed to do so by weak local government.

They don't have to integrate as they are not on the ponce and are generally self sufficient ...all they want is a bit of sun for their poor old bones, bless'em

The fecking locals should be grateful that they're getting hard earned British, i tells ya, money .... ;-)

Integration- What is it?
is that where we stop eating pork, drinking, watching porn and having a good time, whilst saying jack and turning a blind eye to FGM wife beating and Sheela courts.

Surprising how some English demand foreigners "fit in" but get very insulting when you ask them to learn Welsh when they move here.

Any Englishman who moves to Wales obviously has mental health issues.

+ learning Welsh is about as much use as learning to juggle soot.

Who the feck moves to fecking Wales?.......scouse criminals is who......is it?

Most Welsh people don't speak Welsh so there's no point in people committing any time, money or energy into learning what is essentially a dead language. Welsh people would be better off learning Urdu or Punjabi if they wanted to learn a language that would help them revitalise their areas and prepare them for the future.

Actually, it is.

Or, do you imagine things like curries, the modern TV, cars, air travel, SI units, etc were all invented in Britain.

Having said that, it is for incomers to accept us as we are, and for us to adopt the best they bring. There's a fair bit of squabbling on both sides.

I, for one, still refuse to use a continental quilt!

naw, that would take some effort and acceptance on their part........much easier to blame someone else for their inbred fecktard woes
