Information wanted!

I am currently writing the memoirs of my father's time in the RAF from 1968 to 2004. His memory is not what it used to be so I am hoping someone could guide me to any useful sites where I could learn more about the RAF, what some terms mean (e.g., operational conversion unit) and what was involved in certain training/exams (e.g., what a final handling exam is or what advanced flying training consists of). Any info would be helpful! thank you

Unofficial RAF site - some banter, some very clever people, but not as busy as ARRSE (RAF are very select and very busy counting their piles of £££'s). So may be worth posting there, but wait out for an answer.

Ask @Magic_Mushroom

He (she?) is the resident expect on ARRSE for all things fitting with wings.

As an aside I understand that an OCU is a squadron where the various specialists (pilot/navs/other aircrew) are trained on the airframe that they will be expected to fly on ops. Once passing out they are then posted to operational squadrons.

Happy to be corrected.
