Arnt all support platoons being shelved and retrained on MG to fullfill the operational requirements of herrick? I know our bn is doing that and I cant see it being a plan implimented by the CO off his own back.

He may have jumped the gun a bit.

A while ago there was lots of good chat about the TA being focussed on Assault Pnrs only with no other support Pls required so they canned the TA Sp Wpns courses at Warminster

Then there was more chat that actually the regular Bns wanted the TA to provide MMGs and Mors capability, so they went back and chatted some more and reinstated the courses, but only on an every other year basis. At this point they quite rightly (in my opinion) decided that Javelin for the TA was a non-starter as they would not get enough training/firing time and ammunition to become truly capable.

I think the only thing that has been confirmed is that nothing is confirmed.

somebodys in the poo then because the bn has just taken delivery of a s@@t load of GPMG's and MG Plt told to organise LR cadres for upowards of 60 pax, I dont care I'll be in the Stan. :D
Clues are all there aren't they - light role cadres. Just what is required for soldiers to operate the GPMG in the light role, which is not the same as GPMG SF.

There is talk of binning 7 rifles AP platoon.
tere is talk about binning Support Pl across the TA and just having Rifle Platoons

Then they want SF or Asslt Pnr or Mtrs then they dont

As The Duke says the only thing that is confirmed is that it isnt confirmed

Thats part of the point if they want these cadres they need the support for training the troops throughout the ranks from Pte to Officer. They also need to be on a yearly basis and be able to run concurrently so some one could complete 2 specialist course in a year if required

When we formed the plt in 99 we did a 2 week cader. That is the only one we have ever run. Everyone else is trickle fed through the training until they atain the required standard. To be fair match 9 or Match 83 as it is now helps because that gives us a shed load of training with bn not bothering us. It has fell down of late due to most of the qualified instructors being on Ops. i dont think we have had a qualified Plt commander since 2004(ish)
