Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Ive bought a tankard for a local bootfair and it has the following inscribed on it.

    L R B
    "The Newton Dunn"
    2nd Lieut.C.W.SUTER

Any information would be much appreciated.
  2. L R B is the London Rifle Brigade. Until 1937 it was 5th (City of London) Bn the London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade). It then became a TA battalion of the Rifle Brigade. Gazette entry for your man's promotion to Lt is at Viewing Page 5542 of Issue 34317. Newton Dunn had associations with the regiment see At one time serving in the regiment and later on the committee of the regiment's mutual aid fund. Hope this gives you a start.
  3. Thank you very much.
So is Newton Dunn a place?
