Ternhill camp is/was Army but the actual airfield is still used for rotary flying training by all three services.

Sad news indeed.

I come from just down the road from Shawbury so very sad news indeed. Condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and a swift recovery to all others involved.

All rhe sky in the world and they bump into each other. The recent Coroners report on the loss in the Gulf of 2 helos springs to mind in good weather. It looks clear here but the weather today has been pretty foul wind wise!

Having had a cabby in a squirrel at shawbury myself my thoughts are with everone affected by this tragic loss.

RIP and best wishes for the injured.

Agree there Flash. Terrible accident.

RIP, as always thoughts are with the family and friends at this sad moment. Good luck to the injured and hopes for a full speedy recovery.

Just found out the name. A tragic loss. Numbed and gutted. Condolences to the family involved, and a hasty recovery to the others.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE STATION COMMANDER RAF SHAWBURY
– GROUP CAPTAIN PAUL CUNNINGHAM BSc RAF

"FOLLOWING MY ANNOUNCEMENT YESTERDAY. I CAN CONFIRM THAT THE CRASH SITE HAS BEEN SECURED AND A BOARD OF INQUIRY SET UP TO INVESTIGATE THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE TRAGIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING THE TWO SQUIRREL AIRCRAFT AT RAF TERN HILL.

THE BOARD MEMBERS WILL VISIT THE SITE AND BE BRIEFED BY THE ACCIDENT RECOVERY OFFICER. ONCE ALL THE EVIDENCE HAS BEEN REVIEWED, THE BOARD OF INQUIRY WILL REPORT THEIR FINDINGS ON THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT AND THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE WILL PUBLISH THESE IN DUE COURSE.

SADLY MR JOHN GARNONS-WILLIAMS, A CIVILIAN PILOT EMPLOYED BY F B HELI-SERVICES, DIED IN THE CRASH AND OUR CONDOLENCES ARE WITH HIS WIFE AND FAMILY AT THIS TIME. OUR SUPPORT IS ALSO WITH THE OTHER PILOTS INVOLVED (1 ROYAL NAVY AND 2 RAF) AND THEIR FAMILIES AND WE WISH THEM A SPEEDY RECOVERY.
