Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Something I've only just been made aware of is the existence online of the IWM sound archives, which are the audio records of many WW2 veterans and their experiences recorded for posterity. The site has an astounding total of nearly 20,000 interviews detailing peoples experiences of WW2 and beyond.

Its quite an archive and well worth a trawl of the search engine for anyone looking to do research about their own family. For instance, my Grandfathers account is here - IWM interview | Imperial War Museums where he talks about the war in the Desert, Italy, D-Day and the Europe campaign from his experiences as a Rifleman/AT gunner.

Well worth spending time exploring for research purposes!
