Guns its a specialised job with high band pay and fairly easy promotion. It also has a supervisory route to promotion to warrant and officer rank offering a full career if you are succesful.

Poor choice of postings however but plenty of opportunities for deployment.

In todays Corps its not a bad choice. You will get more detailed info as you progress to Phase 2 training.

More info here;

Good luck.

Bascially there are 2 routes to higher promotion with the Signals.

Supervisory appointments start from SSgt and are trade specialists supporting Regimental/Brigade and Div signal operations in their own specific field of expertise. You can apply for selection from Cpl but do the course as a Sgt, however once complete it has automatic promotion to SSgt. Promotion to WO2 should follow soon if you have the right post and are able to "push the right buttons in the right order" and progress on to WO1.

Supervisory routes can go all the way to Lt Col however most good supervisors make Maj. With the advent of VEng (which you will be on) as a Supervisor you have every chance of making a full 55 year career out of the Corps (if you are quality enough and able to fit the right posts).

After my time in the Sigs I can honestly say if the Supervisor route is available then put in the effort as it pays big time.

The other route on promotion past SSgt is the Regimental roster which is incredibly competative and is a real rat race against your peers. I dont think I have ever seen an EW Op on that roster but if being a Sergeant Major or RSM is an ambition there is nothing to stop you, however you must at all times remain highly competative. It is highly unlikely that you will be offered the long (55 year) career through this route unless you make it to WO1 and apply for commision.

Please bare in mind this is real long term career stuff so nothing you need worry for a few years :D

You will pick all of this up as you progress up the chain of command.

Good luck and keep smiling.

Wow, so when i have progressed a couple of ranks i can then see if any supervisory routes are available?

i always thought that a comission would be out of my reach entering as a private, so if i persist and work hard i can achieve a decent rank?

Yes, you would in any trade or arm with the right attitude. But it has to be said that trades with a supervisory route have a much larger roster which means chances of promotion are significantly higher.
