Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Right, I've been mulling it over for quite a while now and have decided to join the TA. ( R Signals)

I did 13 and a bit years as a Reg and left as a Sgt, I have now been out 10 or so years. I've been given the nod that I'll be ok to join but will have to wait about 4 months for the paperwork to be completed due to getting the dispensation for my age, over 40.

The ultimate aim will be to do a deployment on Herrick.
One of the lads I used to work with has just done the same scenario at aged 46

I'll be seeing the PSI when I'm back in the UK next week telling him about my nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills and computer hacking skills that I have learned since being in Civvy Street, Plus getting the paperwork trail started.

Looking forward to doing the basic training courses again, I should be better second time around.

So I just thought I'd share that with you, my internet friends. So you can all laught when I get rejected.

  2. Good luck buddy, took decades for my paper work to come back through but stick it out, you'll be telling war stories in the colonel gadafi before you know it.

I spent my first TA experiences thinking this is fcuk all like being in the reg's!

Then I went through some of that good old on/off bus routine and realised it was exactly like the reg's.
  3. Sunray, don't do it mate.

You only have to look at the p1ssing and moaning by the R.sigs lot on here to see it's a bad idea (sorry guys but you bring it on yourselves) .

If you're fit, why not go Infantry and volunteer for platoon signaller. If you want Herrick than that is your best bet.

Good luck with it, clearly you've thought a lot about it. Hope you get through.
  5. Ahhh! He's entering his second childhood.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it - even if it's RSigs. Don't forget to recalibrate your totty magnet - in deference to your age, you might want to select a lower frequency.
  6. Good luck young man!
  7. I know what you are saying but I'm actually quite proud of of Being Ex-R Signals. My local TA Signals unit is a specialist signals unit so I will have no problem getting a deployment when I want it.

I havn't got much time for courses as I do 8 weeks abroad and 4 weeks back in the UK. So previous service and currenty job will hopefully fast track me on not having to do some trade courses.
  8. Furry muff

    Good luck with it.
  9. PS I'm led to believe that it's no longer "NODUF", nor is it still Able, Baker, Charlie, Dog,..
  10. From Sgt to Pte... that’s quite a fall from grace!
    But Sigs, you big gay!!!

Best of luck to you, the TA needs chaps with real experience.

  11. Good luck mate - but have you ever heard of BOWMAN??
  12. It's ok, neither has TA R.sigs. :D
  13. Second Childhood is one way of putting it, someone else coined the phrase unfinished business.

I've been working for a PSC in Iraq for the last 3 years and it's not been as fullfilling as an operational tour.

As for Sgt to Sig, I think that's funny as the lads I served with that are still in are WOI's and Capt's and I still go boozing with them.

I'll be bringing retro back with 1960's steel helmets with lots of hessian tied to them and bum rolls with NBC Suits and boots bungied to the outside. You heard it here first.
  14. The unit I'm hoping to Join won't be using Bowman. :D
  15. Yeah! I still haven't come to terms with this new-fangled PLCE stuff. Bring back '58 pattern and A41 manpacks, I say.
